What actually happens in a business process audit (and why it’s free)

It’s normal to get cold feet about arranging an audit. Most commonly, it’s because you aren’t sure what you’re signing up for. “Free” makes you suspicious that an aggressive upsell is coming, and “audit” can sound like somebody in a suit is going to come round and pick out all the things you’ve done wrong.
But neither of those things is true. Here’s what one of our audits really looks like.
1. We ask about the true workflow
How something works on paper and how it actually manifests in reality are often not the same at all. We look at who does what, in what order, where the data flows well and where it gets stuck.
2. We follow the friction
We can learn a lot from knowing which jobs your staff really dread. Whether that’s running the end-of-month report, taking a stock inventory or doing something else entirely – we trace it back to the root of the problem.
3. We look at where your data is stored
And more importantly, how many places it’s stored in. Duplication of stored data is common, and a leading cause of increased admin time and mistakes.
4. We work out what needs fixing – and what doesn’t
Our goal is to help you make your business more profitable, not to sell you the biggest piece of software we can. We are big believers in only fixing something that’s broken – so if you have aspects of your setup that work well, we take note of that too.
5. You walk away with a plan
The audit will leave you with a clear picture of how your operation is running – where problems and opportunities lie – whether you want to hire us or not. Some people like to work with us, some like to fix things in-house – and either is fine.
So why is it free?
We know what it’s like to be a small business, and the challenges that come along with it. We want anything we do to genuinely improve your working environment, not push you into purchasing something you don’t need. And if you do decide to work with us, the audit gives us a fantastic starting point for understanding your needs, allowing us to create quality bespoke software that we are proud to put our name to.
